Cricket South Africa (CSA) have begun the process of appointing a new support staff for the men’s team. On Thursday CSA confirmed that the new staff will be in place by beginning of September. For the selection process, the board has created a panel of 5 members that includes former cricketers Gary Kirsten and Eric Simons. The other members are Norman Arendse SC and Rihan Richards who are part of the CSA board. President of North West Cricket Dr. Nkagisang will also be part of the panel. These members would recommend the right candidates after screening through their profiles for various positions. SA coach Domingo likely to be removed at end of tenure in August
CSA’s chairman Chris Nenzani felt there was too much negativity regarding the board created by the media, “There has been uninformed negativity in the media about the Board’s decision to start a process to recruit a coach for the Men’s Senior National Team. But the reasons for our doing this were obvious and the committee we have appointed to oversee the process will make sure that we have all bases covered,” speaking to sport24.co.za. South Africa’s current coach Russell Domingo’s contract will end in August and is likely to re-apply for the position hoping to stay with the team until ICC World Cup 2019.
“I’ve had one opportunity to take part in the 50-over World Cup and if I’m fortunate, I’d love to have another crack at it but that’s not in my control at the moment. I know where I want to be and I’d like to be involved with South African cricket, whether it’s with the academy, the national team or the franchises,” Domingo said. The new coach who would be selected post England tour and ICC Champions Trophy will serve his term until World Cup 2019.
Domingo had extended his term thrice during his tenure. However, CSA chief executive Haroon Lorgat felt that it could create legal issues. Meanwhile, CSA has also extended the tenure of National Selection Panel (NSP) until World Cup.
