South Africa Women posted a dominant 7-wicket triumph over Zimbabwe Women as the two teams locked horns in match No. 7 of the ongoing Women’s Quadrangular Series 2017. At the North-West University No1 Ground, Potchefstroom, Zimbabwe Women won toss and elected to bat. However, they failed to survive the South Africa bowlers in favourable conditions, collapsing for a mere 113. Later, South Africa chased the total down in 21.2 overs later. With the victory, South Africa registered their third victory in four matches in the series, emerging as the second favourites along with an unbeaten Indian side. Shabnim Ismail was on top of her game as she ran through the Zimbabwe batting line-up, not letting the top-order settle down. Her double strikes sent the openers back in 4.1 overs with only 11 runs on the board. Only four Zimbabwe batters could register double-digit score, with Modester Mupachikwa being the highest run-getter of the side with her 29. Apart from Shabnim, Sune Luus and Masabata Klaas were the other two bowlers to pull off the collapse with a couple of wickets each. 24 runs of Zimbabwe’s 113 came as extras, making it the second highest contribution towards the scorecard.
Zimbabwe bowlers did a decent job but hardly had anything to defend. With the pressure acting on them, Nomatter Mutasa, Nomvelo Sibanda amd Tasmeen Granger bagged a wicket each as South Africa got the desired runs in 21.2 overs. Andrie Steyn (22) and Mignon du Preez (22*) were the highest run-getters in the innings.
Shabnim was adjudged the Player of the match for her brilliant spell.
